The relationship between Favignana and the tuff is perhaps less known than the relationship between Favignana and tuna, but not less strong. The quarries, called “pirrere”, have modified the morphology of the marine coasts and the life itself of its inhabitants, representing a true source of development and livelihood.
The hundreds of caves present have taken the dimensions of unique and unrepeatable monuments of their kinds.
Favignana tuff has always been the strongest and most persistent. Proof of its resistance is the Palazzo Florio, a unique monument representing the sign of the tuff stone with its merlons and its spiers.
